A first step: Reduce the use of animals for food
To answer the question for what purpose and how humans might use animals challenged me a lot and raised some new questions that I cannot reply to. One thing is clear, the relationship between humans and animals is in transition. But much time will still be needed to put the new awareness into practice. It’s a long way to go from thinking differently to act differently.
Furthermore, millions of humans still depend on fish or bush meat (hunting wild animals, e.g. primates) for their survival. Given their poverty they have barely a choice how to use animals and nature. Actually they are often forced to clear a part of the jungle and to destroy the habitat of oran-utans or other animals in order to assure some meals for their large family. Thus, poverty reduction is of highest importance for a better intercourse with animals.
